Default Re: The new NS10s...

Hey,

I'm going to audition the v6s this week, but was also tipped off to the bm5a Dynaudios. They have to special order them for me to try and I'm trying to read between the lines of other peoples' posts...

Some of the feedback sounds like they're actually the new "HR824s" in that they have "greeeeat bass" and "compressed highs". I DON'T want a scooped out sounding monitor, in fact that's what I thought was the problem with the 824s - they sounded too "sweet".

Anyone have an opinion on the BM5a's in that regard? (keep in mind I'm pro-NS10s).

Thanks,

The secret to NS-10's is what is powering them. IMHO, Bryston is the way to go. A pair of NS-10's, no sub, with a Bryston 4B.
If you A/B a Bryston 4B with another amp it will surprise you what a difference you will hear.
For my taste the Hafler does not work. Crown is passable. But seriously... try the 4B.

The new NS 10's.....(drumroll)......... Same as the old NS 10's

That's why so many engineers still use them. I power mine with a Bryston 4b st. Tony was right with the 10's it's all about how you power them. The Bryston amps are much more expensive then the speakers themselves. They have a lot of clean wattage and they allow the speakers to do their job correctly.

Hey All,

Thanks for the feedback - I'll definitely keep that in mind when trying the NS10s. I'm going to audition the new Dynaudios this week and if I don't like those, I'll return them and give the v6s a whirl. If they don't give me what I need, I'll try the NS10 route with a great amp. As always, I really appreciate the responses.

Add me to the list of very satisfied NS-10/Bryston 4B users.

Woah, didn't realize those amps were over $2k! I've used them at other studios and didn't realize that the popular amps that go with them were that much more than what the speakers go for. Good to know.

For now I'm auditioning the BM5a's. I probably should have started with the v6's because now I don't want to take the Dynaudios back! They sound great, but not too great, very clear. My memory of the V6's were that they were a little harsher sounding, and maybe they'd make a good complement to BM5a's, but seeing as I can only have one right now, I think the BM5a's will stay.

My main concern for the BM5a's was that I didn't want a masked middle like I feel like I was getting with the HR824s. Part of that may be the size of my room too, but I *definitely* can't afford a bigger room. : )

Thanks for the input, I may yet get the NS10s or other as a partner to these.
