Default Digital Distortion with 001

Hey gang,

i need some help troubleshooting. First heres my specs:

Digi 001 with Pro Tools LE 6.1.1. and Wavedriver 6.1.1.
Win XP Pro
Nvidia Nforce Mobo]
768 MB RAM
AMD Athlon XP 2000 CPU
Two 40G Maxtor IDE Hard Drives
Onboard sound enabled (for system sounds and AIM sounds)
All other audio using wavedriver for output to monitors.

When using third party apps such as Winamp or WMP i get annoying digital distortion about midway through whatever it is im playing. This used to be only a slight nuisance, but now it occurs with almost everything i play in Winamp or WMP. It leaves me incapable of turning some tunes on and leaving the room. When it clips, it puts a big hurting on my poor monitors.

I have tried reinstalling the wavedriver several times as well as reinstalling the OS several times to no avail. Could this be related to the fact that im still using onboard sound as default in windows sounds, using the Wavedriver and MME Helper to add Winamp and WMP to the the 001 signal path. I have tried removing the onboard sound, but still the problem remains.

Any help would be appreciated.

Nick

Default Re: Digital Distortion with 001

I'm glad you asked that because I have the same problem. Protools (DAE) works fine, ASIO works fine, but apps that interface with the Wavedriver (WMP, Real, iTunes, etc.) can only play audio without distortion for about a minute. Not a huge problem, but definately an annoyance.
