Re: lagging mouse ergggggg
ok great.
I should mention. I just finished mixing a song and protools was working well enough. One thing I noticed is in activity monitor, when the mouse was legging the hard drive activity was maxing out even when stopped. Now for some reason even during playback the drive isn't maxed and goes to 0 when stopped. The mouse is still a tad lagging from time to time, but nothing like before. I can work the way it is now. I had a usb hard drive fail that disappeared without being properly ejected. then I connected it again and was able to properly eject it. not sure if that's relevant at all. It's the only variable I can think of. |

Re: lagging mouse ergggggg
USB (pre version four) is so unstable you should avoid it at all cost.

Re: lagging mouse ergggggg
so I have a bit of progress. For some reason Google Chrome is making my mouse lag. In activity monitor there is Chrome as well as Chrome helper. sometimes 7 or 8 of them. When I stop them the mouse no longer lags when playback is stopped . so that's fixed.
but Still during playback, after a while the mouse still lags. Sometimes it's fine for a few hours, then it acts up. here is all my system info...probebly should have started with this MAc Pro 3.1, 8 core, 10 gig ram. os 10.6.7 Protools HD 8.1.1 HD3 accel system. Recently I bought a bunch of waves plugins. version 9.3. I realize my os isn't officially supported but I was told they should work fine. I can't remember if the computer started lagging after the installation of the waves plugins or if it was fine for a while. I also had 2 ups's fail. I would leave my computer and Lynx Aurora converter on over night, and they would both be turned off in the morning. Once my current mix is finished I"m updating to 10.6.8 as recommended. I probably should start a new post about any known issues with Waves v 9.3 and my system |

Re: lagging mouse ergggggg
I"m a bit confused about the OS compatibility. it stats here
https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...nload/en393679 that 10.6.7 is the last version supported by HD 8.1.1, though I have read that hd8.1.1 works up to 10.9.5. I'd really like to install at least 10.7.5 so that I can rule out the possibility of waves plugins causing the lag and I can get tech support. and then there is the issue of the errors on the boot drive. Rather than install 10.6.8 on the same boot drive, I think I'd like to start from scratch on a new boot drive. |

Re: lagging mouse ergggggg
I should also mention, when my mouse lags, so does the protools counter
After my session Thursday I will update to 10.6.8 I have found a new computer the same as mine. If 10.6.8 doesn't fix it on mine, I'm going to install fresh on the new computer. I can't find my Protools hd 8 installer dvd. does this link to the download work... I have the ilok password http://secure.digidesign.com/service...rticleId=43413 8.0.3 for mac os 10.6 then the 8.1.1 updater |

Re: lagging mouse ergggggg
and just to ask again, nobody thinks this could be due to installing the 3rd pcie card?
or is it just a coincidence. another coincidence is my computer fan used to be real loud. like full blast all the time. As soon as it got quite, the mouse and counter started lagging |

Re: lagging mouse ergggggg
So I updated to 10.6.8 and I'm having the same problem. mouse is lagging from time to time, even on a session with 2 tracks and a reverb.
The majority of the time it just lags during playback, but sometimes when protools is stopped too. To stop the mouse lag when protoools is stopped, I had to use the activity monitor to stop google chrom and google helper. that instantly fixed the lad when stopped. with 2 tracks playing, the disc usage goes from around 15%, then spikes at 85%- 100%. that's when the mouse lags. This occurs on multi storage drives. there are no errors on the storage drives The boot drive is listing some errors. wondering if that's causing this. I just bought a new MAc pro 3.1 8 core.Wondering if there is other things to try before starting from scratch on the new computer? tks |

Re: lagging mouse ergggggg
You have your answer right there then, do not look any further. Google-free world is just as great as Waves-free.
