I'm not sure exactly what you consider "total control" but I love the Kensington Turbo Mouse pro. It gets made fun of for being kind of ugly. But, it's like a baseball glove... once you break it in, you can't work with anything else. The mouseworks software that it comes with is very easy to use, and I use the multiple buttons to switch editing tools in PT (grabber, selector, trimmer etc.). If you really want to splurge, (about $100 these days) buy the wireless model. Whatever you do, don't get a trackball with a small ball. They get dirty quicker and I think are tougher on the hands. Opticals are great, (Turbo Mouse Pro is not optical) but not necessary for PT work. Anyway, check out all the Kensington stuff. I think they build higher quality pointing devices than just about anyone out there.

Kensington Expert Mouse

Can't live without it. I have 2, one for my home studio, and one that I take with me to all other sessions. The ring scroll wheel is absolute genius, much better than they're old blue n' silver model IMHO, plus it's optical, so no gummed up sensors is a big plus.
