update:
I reinstallled PT and it will fire up now, but for some reason every drive i own.. is says its not a valid audio record volume. These are the same drives i was using for the last 3 months with no problem and they work fine on my HD system. I have trashed all DDB files and protools preferences

How did you update your CoreAudio and not your ProTools app? Did you use the standalone driver? That's not for use if you have PT installed, as noted on the download page:

"For Owners of Supported Digidesign Hardware on Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" That Do Not Have Pro Tools Installed

The Digidesign CoreAudio Driver is an option (checked by default) during the installation of Pro Tools. If you have any of the following Pro Tools versions, you should use the Digidesign CoreAudio included with your Pro Tools installation:" Pro Tools HD 7.x
Pro Tools LE 7.x
Pro Tools 6.9.2 for HD Systems
Pro Tools LE 6.9.2

This download is for owners of supported Digidesign hardware on Mac OS X 10.4.x "Tiger" that wish to install the Digidesign CoreAudio Driver without installing Pro Tools.

I would uninstall the standalone driver if possible, then re-install ProTools and CoreAudio driver using your latest ProTools installer only.
