Going from 32/96 to 16/44
What is the best route to get from a 32 float bit/96 khz recording to a 16/44.1 wav for CD burning, sonicwise?

Well to get to 44.1 you need sample rate conversion. Pro tools built in SRC is really nice IMO. As far as 32-bit float to 16-bit fixed, you need to dither. So what I do is put a dither plug-in (with it's output set to 16-bit) in the very last slot of my master fader. Then bounce to disc and select tweak head on the SRC option. Select an interleaved file and you're good to go.

Re: Going from 32/96 to 16/44
Thanks CME. That seems to be the easiest way. What about if I wanted to use an external SRC like R8Brain? Do I have to use R8 as the SRC and then open the SRC'd file in PT for dithering?

Yes. You would use that app to convert it to 44.1 and then apply dither. That app may do that also. I'll also add there's a site out there that compares the sample rate conversion of several top apps and pro tools is one of the best. Don't know if r8brain was included in their tests or not.

Thanks for the link! I will have to try doing some bounces using PT's internal SRC and compare them to R8 brain.
