Default midi notes won\'t playback

all of a sudden midi notes are not being played back.

I can play and record midi notes and hear them fine but after i record them they do not play back.

This applies to instrument tracks and aux tracks.
The midi notes are there and you can see the activity in the midi LED but there is no sound.

I have tried different plug-ins and different midi channels and updated to PT 7.1 but no luck.

Is there a preference file somewhere I can trash?

Trash the Prefers and Databases and see what happens. So you hear the first note, no error messages? And your MIDI triggers aren't blackened? What sort of Virtual Instrument are you using? Have a look at the Transport and see if anything looks out of place. MIDI I/O in the Instruments View controls?

everything appears normal on transport and preferences, trashed databases and prefs, but didn't help.
i hear the first note from anywhere i start in the region, no error messages. notes keep playing just can't hear them.

what's odd is if i IMPORT a midi file from a program like live, it plays back fine. it's only the midi notes I have just recorded that won't play back correctly, even though they are all there.

I have tried several different plugs (lounge lizard, minimonsta, electrik piano, etc) same results.

How odd ...create a new session and import only that MIDI track, assign your Virtual Instrument, selecting the correct channel via the Instruments View controls (MIDI I/O) and record arm the Instrument track, Alt+click the fader, and Alt+K for Input Only Monitoring and see if that will playback.

Just to cross off some more possibilities here, the Virtual Instrument you assign, could you make that Reason if you have it installed. And see if that same MIDI track will playback?

...and you bussed the outputs of the MIDI track? Check your Audio I/O. Other than that you might have to do a reinstall.

Not even working with Reason. Sounds strange.
