Default Successful AMD Systems?

Hi all,

I'm curious, does anyone here use an AMD system successfully with PT? Are there any issues? Just wondering because Avid doesn't seem to support AMD, and I see no reason why an AMD system shouldn't perform well.

Unsupported does not mean it won't work. It's nearly impossible to test all the variables in Windows systems. Personally, I would go with the majority when choosing a new rig.

Thanks, Tom.
I wasn't really planning an AMD rig for PT. I'm just curious.
My current Intel build is powerful enough to handle anything I throw at it.

No issues here. I don't do overly heavy sessions, but I'm quite happy.

I'll likely upgrade my processor to the latest AM4 generation this year at some point, but I'm not really hitting any bottlenecks currently.

Great, Joel! I guess I'd like to know what happens with really heavy mix sessions...

yeah I'm using an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X and it's absolutely rock solid. I got lucky that my blind motherboard purchase supported thunderbolt though...! as it seems not all AMD based boards do. I got the 'ASUS ROG STRIX 550-F Gaming'

also, it's an absolute beast. an absolute BEAST. I had the trash can mac pro before this.. so a bit unfair to compare with the trash can being basically a 2013 time capsule of a machine, but man alive... this this takes everything I throw at it and looks back at me like "that it?"

I realised I was getting hugely lazy on the old mac, things like creating busses, groups etc.. anything routing related essentially.. I used to really drag my heels cos it took a little while.. also just simply starting up and being ready to go is a matter of about a minute now - from actually booting the PC.

Wow! Good to hear! I knew it was just a matter of Avid not having tested AMD systems...

Re thunderbolt, there are way fewer motherboards that DO support it as compared to those that won't. So if that is important, do thorough research before buying
