Default H/W Buffer Size grief (errors 9092, 9093)

Hi all,

I got an Mbox Mini around three months ago, and have been using it only for editing so far. The H/W buffer condition was edgy right from the start - I had to work with 1024 samples latency, and it through a 9092 or 9093 in my face every half hour or so (which was a pain, but for editing work it wasn't critical). I also got spells of digital white noise.

System basics (Sandra report below):
Lenovo T60 Laptop, Mbox Mini, PT LE 8.03cs,

Recently upgraded my external HD (former external demoted to BU). It worked like a charm for a day or two, but since then I cannot get PT to play at any buffer size (1024 samples says "increase", 2048 samples says "decrease").

I am under a deadline to finish this edit work, and would generally like to use PT for real work (I don't intend to record with a 1024 sample buffer).

I went through the XP optimization routine, and to no avail.

Please help!

Is your external drive a FW drive or USB? If USB, there's a problem. If it's firewire, what brand? Is it a Glyph drive?

this worked for me:

(apparently it's in the "sticky" section but I couldn't find it)

hope this works.

the laptop only has USB, and a PCMCIA slot.
If I'm to purchase a Firewire<->PCMCIA card what should I pay attention to?

I'll also give word_play's idea a go (the minute I get home) - will keep you posted

thx

Hopefully someone will post the compatible firewire cards as you need one(I couldnt find the page). USB drives are not supported or recommended. Check your version of IE as IE8 is a problem(roll back to IE7). updating PACE Interlok drivers might be a good idea while you are going thru and double-checking all your system tweaks(turn off wifi when running Pro Tools).

Default Re: H/W Buffer Size grief (errors 9092, 9093)

well, I just did the entire optimization procedure to the letter - the computer is absolutely naked - and no 9092s even at 128sample latency. (woohoo!)
(I'm not so keen on beta software, so if it's not a must, I decided not to try out the windows 7 driver).

I am getting the "your HD is too slow, buddy" error every once in a while, but it's workable for my very pressing editing work and I'll get the firewire card next week.

Thing is, this computer serves me for all sorts of work (day job, just plain having a life), so I'll need to figure out how to have two very different setups. Is adding another user enough, or do I have to do something more fundamental (two different boot modes)?

thanks again

Definitely Dual boot in this case. Once you have PT up and running and stable, lock it out from any changes including OS updates etc.

Most laptop drives are 5400 rpm and PT requires 7200 rpm (or faster).
