Default Recommend an inexpensive massive storage drive

I am going to buy Gallerys' Mtools w/ SampleSearch. I want to prep and store all of my sample CD's on one drive (connected to the SCSI on my Mac) and access it with SampleSearch, cause I'm sick of the slow process of looking for loops and samples and scouring sample CD's. It's time to get more productive kids. Can anyone recommend a 50 GB drive that is inexpensive that would be fast enough to seach for samples and preview them without too much waiting.

Thanks in advance.

All the **** on one drive, (backed up of course!) Instant access.

me too, i am buying mtools. i already love samplesearch. i need 4 50 gigers though, for my efx library. unless mpeg3 level 1 sounds as good at 2:1 as mark gilbert says it does, then i would only need two drives. at any rate, i don't know of these drives but if anyone does...they should be cheap 5,400 rpm drives, not cheetas or the like.

All you guys, keep an eye on ebay- search "50gb" "50 gb" "50 gig" "47gb" "47 gb"...etc
There's plenty out there. I have now scored three brand new cheeta 50 gig drives for around 500 bucks each....ya gotta be on the ball, but they're definitely out there!!!

Check out hypermicro.com. They have a Seagate Elite 47 GB external drive for $500. Never used one (the specs are 5400 RPM, 11ms seek, etc) but have had nothing but good experiences with the dealer.

Jules-

You can get Quantam Atlas 10k drives (9-36GB) with the 80-pin hot swap interface.

So, is 36 gig the hot swap maximum then?

Seagate makes 3 or 4 flavors of 50 gig SCA drives...the suffix is "LC"

Hey Jules,

Here's the Seagate price list.
http://www.seagate.com/cda/products/...es/serverdept/

I was looking for something even less expensive. Gary's Ebay idea is right on the money. I went to Ebay and couldn't find anything. I'll check it every couple of days.
