Default Pro Tools Aggregate I/O

Hello, I am having a very disappointing issue, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

My setup:
Pro Tools | First
Pro Tools 2021.3.1 Trial
Apple MacBook Pro M1
16GB Unified Memory
SSL 2 USB Interface

When I go into Pro Tools | First, my SSL 2 Inputs and Outputs are available to my tracks.

When I am in Pro Tools 2021.2.1 all it recognizes are my built in microphone and speakers. However, when I change the Playback Engine in 2021.3.1 to SSL2, it recognizes the SSL 2 Inputs and Outputs, and, the built in microphone and speakers are no longer available as inputs or outputs.

Both Pro Tools | First and 2021.3.1 have the Playback Engine set to Pro Tools Aggregate I/O.

Any Ideas? Thanks community!

You do know that PT is not yet supported on the M1 Macs right?

Second - why do you need to run both sets of I/O at the same time?

This^^^^ and maybe you simply need to buy the regular version instead of trying to get the free version to do more than its designed(or allowed) to do.

Jack and Dave: M1 macs can run latest PT fine even though unsupported. OP says he'd like to use both the interface and the built in mic/speaker.

I have no experience w/aggregate i/o, but without it, that's is how it works; one interface at a time.

Default Pro Tools Aggregate I/O

Does each version of Pro Tools install its own aggregate setup? The OP needs to go to the audio midi setup and check on the configuration of any and all aggregate devices that show up there. Making a new aggregate device with all the I/O configured as desired wouldn’t hurt to try either.

Neither of us is saying PT can't run on an M1 Mac it's just that don't expect things to run as one would expect them to run. Especially with something as flaky as aggregate I/O. It's finicky for the best of us to make it work let alone a relative newbie.

I was just thinking that maybe the OP is trying to use more inputs than PTF allows(not sure if its limited to 2 or 4 inputs at a time). The regular version of PT allows 32 inputs, along with a dozen other good reasons to buy the full version. If budget doesn't allow, then there are several solid options like Reaper, Cakewalk by Bandcamp or even GarageBand

Very good posts, thank you all. Kudos to the person who pointed out about having different Aggregate I/Os, which opened up new doors for me, being able to set up different setups!

What I have noticed, is that in Pro Tools | First, it is not required to ask for microphone access, and, I am able to utilize Aggregate and Device I/Os from Audio Midi setup in macOS Big Sur 11.4. While in Pro Tools 2021.3.1, it says you HAVE to allow microphone access to use ANY audio device. After fooling around, I was able to make Aggregate I/O Paths or SSL 2 working as Playback Engine in Pro Tools | First. However, not in Pro Tools 2021.3.1

I am wondering if anyone knows how to make things work? Cant seem to make an Aggregate I/O or SSL 2 work in Pro Tools 2021.3.1, even though my Playback Engine is set accordingly.

-Ray, thanks everyone for contributing!

The question for me is, why do you need to run aggregate?
