Default PT on a second Machine (Laptop)

I bought Protool 7 back in the days wich came with the needed digi002 interface and an ilok. now i have PT 9 wich do not need a special hardware, and as far as i know not even an ilok., is that right?
the problem is, that i want to install my pro tools for a live setup on a macbook.

how to do that? do i need a new license for that? or can i use mine?
or is it besser to buy a new mbox with the included PT and use another interface (i need 8 outputs)

thanks for your tips

kalony

You DO need an iLok for PT 9.

Regarding using a second computer, if you don't need to use both simultaneously, you can just install the PT 9 software on the other machine, and plug your "PT 9 iLok" in whichever machine you're using at the time.

If you want to be able to use both machines at once, talk to you dealer about the most cost-effective method of doing so...

ok, i see...

i dont need them both simultaneously, but i am a lil bit scared of using and walking around with my ilok since i need it for work, and it would be a pain in the ass if i loose it or if the dongle is damaged.

is it possible to duplicate the dongle? or to make a backup?

i know there is a function on ilok.com, but its cost expensive. isnt it?

You can pay for zero downtime. Whether or not it is expensive depends on your point of view. I think it's cheap.

ZDT is a no brainer if you have a studio that makes you money. Consider it "insurance for your plugins". If you find it a huge PITA, then you can always buy another authorization and keep that on its own iLok(look on the used market for a deal).

What interface are you using live?

If you have digi equipment, mac permitting, it's handy to have a backup partition with Pro Tools 8, just incase. This way, worst scenario it will only need to detect the 002 and you could get by, whereas if you forget or lose the ilok, it's gonna be a PIA.
