Default Black Lion Mods

I know a lot of people here say the mods are incredible sounding, but I want to ask about reliability. Has many of you had any problems with BL mods, needing to return them?

I've had the signature mod for about eight months and I have no complaints on the sound or reliability.

I haven't needed to return mine due to a problem with a mod - I started with the original mod way back when then sent it back to them for the upgrade to the tweakhead before they came out with the signature - but I did send it to them. Here's the quick story: had a problem with the mains in the new studio that resulted in frying the monitor outs on my 002. Called a local shop in Hollywood (won't name names, but won't do biz w them again...) who screwed up the repair. Desperate, on a flyer I called BLA, and asked if they could possibly take a look since they were so familiar with the units. Jim (Jedlicka - I love how the managers and owners are just as likely to pick up the phone as anyone else) said sure, send it in, we'll take a look.

I shipped it to them, and three days later it came back. I actually called them thinking they refused delivery or something, and (Jim again) said nope, we looked at it, replaced the burnt op-amps, and sent it back. I said, wow, thanks! But I didn't ever hear from you... How much? He said, don't worry about it. They even paid the shipping back.

Now, they may have done that cuz they cracked it open and saw they had done two mods on mine. Maybe it was bonus day - who knows. But I have always had that kind of service from them, from the first mod on - they have always been really great, and in my experience have gone beyond what they have to. Folks can argue the merits of the mods, if they are a scam, why they don't publish some detailed spec sheet, yada yada. Bottom line from this one customer's experience is that they stand by their work, and will be really responsive to their customers.

Of course, as always - YMMV.

Best,

Nathan

Agreed on the service aspect.

Was one of the early adopters way back. Had some different issues on the first mod, and they took care of it. Had some noise issues on the second mod, and they took care of it. In both cases, they fixed whatever they fixed PLUS took some extra steps to ensure nothing else would muck up either. No problems on the Signature Series mod, have had it for a while. Even e-mailed them about the "sticker" that they're now putting on the box (I only got the silk-screen - I'd been suggesting to them for a bit that they should have a "sticker" or other marking for the box), and they mailed me one right away.

Do it!
