Default Extra gain from re-opening session?

I make the hottest mix I can using just a touch of compression on the master. Then I re-open the bounced file back into PT and push the master fader up all the way and maybe do a little last minute eq'ing. This yields me a little more volume in the end, but my question is "Why does pushing up the fader the second time around give me more volume without any 'noticeable'" distortion?

Default Re: Extra gain from re-opening session?

PT has a built in soft limiter. Many folks graciously push their faders into the red to work it. Wanna hear what software sounds like without one? Try SAW. It's a gain staging nightmare without the limiter!
