Default system software update?

hi, i've been considering updating my OS to 9 from 8.6.Now what i'd like to ask is whether there is any point to this exercise or should i stick with what aint broke(i rarely have problems as is)
my setup is:
9500 w/g3 375
4 gig scsi system drive
18 gig scsi audio drive
256 ram
digi 001
