Unable to hear midi in playback

I am new to midi recording. I have a general midi keyboard from radioshack, and I have hooked it up properly to my Mbox2. I have followed the instructions on the "Pro Tools: Method One" instructional dvd. When I record MIDI, I can see that I am recording the notes I am playing, but I cannot hear any playback. when I set up my peripherals, i get a message saying that pro tools could not communicate. Im not even sure what peripherals are or if this is the problem. can anyone help me out?

Which Radio Shack keyboard specifically are you using?

Are you trying to use the Radio Shack keyboard as a sound source?

Do you have MIDI cables going in both directions? (out->in, in<-out)

Are you selecting that MIDI output on your MIDI/Instrument track?

Do you have the audio outputs of the Radio Shack Keyboard hooked up to your audio interface? Are you monitoring those inputs in Pro Tools?


There is no need to setup the Radio Shack keyboard under peripherals, because it isn't one, and is the reason why Pro Tools can't communicate with it.
