If you place reverb to AUX plugin/hardware insert, you would set mix to 100% and tweak mix percentage with a fader.

If you place reverb to channel plugin/hardware insert, you control mix percentage from reverb itself.

If you place reverb inline (to the channel) it is available for that channel only. If you place it on AUX, you can send stuff to it from multiple sources.

Those are all the differences. Neither is right or wrong, just how you are used to set up your routing.

This is what I do, and to clarify a bit further what I do is leave the Aux fader at unity (0) and adjust the send fader to get my desired percentage mix

I have very little experience with PT but run a lot of legacy gear in my home studio, old mac g4s etc, so Im excited to try out this system.

It also has a PACK 3 ilok included. I understand this was often bundled.

Two quick questions:
What would be an affordable and good quality reverb to try and find second hand for this rig?

Also, should I try and buy a second hand license to version 7 or 8?

Im using this for non commercial/ hobby/ home studio work. but would like to maybe, on a budget, buy some old tdm/ rtas plugins to round things out a bit. Im not sure if there are more available for PT 7 or 8? Or should most still work on 6.7?

Thanks for any advice or tips on getting the most out of this would be, much appreciated.
Welcome to the G4/G5 TDM Club!

I have Pro Tools 6.2-6.9 running on 10.3.9, so I’m curious how exactly you got it functioning in OSX 10.4?

First thing I would do is backup that drive to another drive, and run off the new drive. In my search of Pro Tools installers, V6 was one of the hardest to get nailed down.

I run Pro Tools 7.2 on 10.4. The level of support for 7 was a lot greater in my experience and had better plugin support. Multiple output plugins were properly supported on V7 vs V6.

If you’re needing any installers I have an archive of installers I could share, just need to find the licenses to activate them.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

(Also still looking for V7.4.2 HD installers and V6.9.2/6.9.3).

Thanks for the replies.

Im not sure how it was installed as the whole G5 system is coming to me as purchased from a studio. Im very curious to see what plugins are included, there is a Pack 3 ilok included which should have some bundled stuff. There are also some software boxes and probably install discs. I have to wait and see till Monday or Tuesday when it arrives

Im debating whether to leave it as is and just use it or upgrade to 7.

There are more plugins available for 7 correct?
And thank you Architecture for the offer to share installers.

Thanks again.

All plugins older than AAX64 (PT11) are very tough to find, so if I was you, I would not upgrade anything. Be sure to make a workable (bootable) clone of your system drive, so when the hard drive fails you also don't need to worry about reinstalling anything.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully the hard drive makes the journey. I must look up how to do a clone and get hold of an ssd...

The previous owner said thew drive was 'getting noisy' so its high on my list.

It all arrived today and is fortunately intact. A quick update

The Mac has 10.4 on it but long story short there is no 6.7 HD installed.

There are, however, the iloks and all the install discs for 6.7 so Im going to need to put in a drive with a fresh 10.3.7 install and try and get it up and running.

there is an Ilok which apparently has the HD 6.7 license and another HD3 pack.

So its a bit of a runaround but hopefully in the next few days I make some progress.
Should the Core/ ACCEL cards be removed for installs or can I leave them in?
Thanks, Nick

Leave them in, and right after installing run the DigiTest and reboot.

You may need to have another partition for 10.3.9 to run Pro Tools TDM 6.7. The only version of 6 im aware of that suports 10.4 is 6.9.3 (which I still haven't found an installer for yet).
