Spot checking on ear buds and commercial best selling head phones seems like a wise routine.

Hey, if anybody is looking for a good set of tracking headphones, i.e. closed-back (for tracking, NOT for mixing/mastering):

I just bought the Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro MKII ($600) and also the Beyerdynamic DT 700 Pro X ($270). I returned the 1770 cuz they were too bassy, but the 700 is pretty good sounding. Keepers! Also, they're super comfortable, non-fatiguing over time, excellent build quality. Not "ruler" flat I suppose, but a very very good neutral pro sound - especially for a closed-back.

"Honestly, this is one of the smartest responses I’ve seen on the topic! Choosing headphones is definitely a personal matter, and this explanation is thorough and really helpful—especially for anyone looking for solid starting points like the Sennheiser HD600 or 650. I also appreciated the mention of planar magnetic headphones and the comparison between them. Thanks for the great reply!"

Save the 650 cable and put it on the new 600s!
