Win 7 64b PT9 Digi 003. Sound occasionally flanges
Hi folks,
I have a win 7 Pro 64 bit os, on a i7 processor. Just did a new install of protools 9 and that (along with plug ins) is the only application on the system. My interface is a digi 003 via firewire. I've been tuning the system using the win 7 guide, and that has cleared most of my clicks and pops, but I still have one issue I can't resolve. After a short while teh sound will start to flange getting a metallic saw tooth sound across all inputs. If I change teh input buffers setting to anything and then change it back, the problem stops temporarily. It seems I can get anywhere from 4-10 minutes of clean sound before it returns. I welcome all input because this issue is preventing me from doing any recording as the sound gets recorded. Thanks |

Re: Win 7 64b PT9 Digi 003. Sound occasionally flanges
Trashing prefs is always a good idea for any odd behavior(and this certainly is odd). Then make sure you disable the wifi when running Pro Tools. Also, did you install the separate 003 drivers with your PT9 install?(you need to). You also need to do all the windows 7 tweaks, and probably should choose the Legacy driver for your firewire controller(which may need to be changed out to a separate card as I don't know if the Dell controller is even compatible). Did you have any other version of PT working on this machine(and if so, how well did it work)?

Re: Win 7 64b PT9 Digi 003. Sound occasionally flanges
Haven't tried the wifi disable, will try that this evening.
Yes, i have installed the separate 003 drive for PT9. I've done all the Win 7 tweeks listed in the article. The legacy driver makes the 003 go offline. I'm getting a SiiG firewire card and will try that (should have that in a few days). All the hardware cables and such worked fine on my XP PT8 system. So really the new parts of the equation are the computer hardware/OS and PT9. The computer is soley dedicated to Protools, and is a fresh install so there isnt any legacy registry stuff causing issues. |

Re: Win 7 64b PT9 Digi 003. Sound occasionally flanges
Albee1952, you are good. it was in fact the firewire port. I have a SiiG pci-e card in place of the wireless network card. Its been running a sound test for well over 20+ minutes without a click, pop or flange sound.
Thank you Dan |
