Pro Tools 9 No Interface question

Before i upgrade to Pro Tools 9 and sell off 003, i have a couple of questions:

Scenario:

I have a windows rig running pro tools 9 with cptk2 and mbox 3pro... full functionality of hd (except tdm, etc.)

I aslo have a second rig a mac for running final cut pro... all my editing, graphic design, etc., but does have pro tools installed.

On my Mac:
My goal is to import final cut files into pro tools 9 and edit audio, add music, etc.

****My question is with pro tools 9 w/ cptk2 what will be the functions that it can do without interface/ just ilok? For example: When opening a session what will be or what determines the sample rate? Can i compose music with usb midi controller, etc.

You computer's soundcard becomes your interface in that scenario, provided it's ASIO compliant. Not totally sure, but I think recording MIDI for virtual instruments via USB controller should work fine (can PT see MIDI from something other than the current interface?), but latency might be problematic, depending on what your card can handle.
