Default Massive dlog files created

Hi,

I was experiencing odd startups since updating to PT 11.1.2 from 11.0.2 on Mac OS 10.8.5 (which is officially supported) and the new firmware on a HD Native system on mac. I was also getting session that would stick and not open, with the beach ball spinning away. This has seemed to improved over the last week since the update but I am now getting HUGE dlog files generated in ~/Library/Logs/Avid : I had 8Gb and larger dlog files and ended up with about 100Gb of dlog files.

Has anyone had this issue or know what could be happening or how to solve it/troubleshoot it?

Many thanks!

Hey I got the same issue. My Avid Log folder has amounted to nearly 450 GB (taking more than half of my total HDD space). I heard they were just log files created each time you open Pro Tools. How could they become so big?

Is it safe to delete those files?

Well, since they were just log files, I deleted them. Now that I know that, I won't let them fill up my hard drive. It still seems pretty unusual to me. Hope that a future update will fix this...

Could be it... I won't know for sure until I upgrade my OS.

Same thing here. Pro Tools creates massive dlog files (biggest one 13 GB at the moment). Apparently Pro Tools doesn´t write those files constantly but I notice a significant drop in responsiveness when it does. Colleague of mine uses 10.9 and doesn´t have those problems so it´s probably not the OS. Anybody any solutions yet?

Avid, can I send you a file so can actually see what´s being logged?

This issue hasn't gone away for me. So if you find a solution, please let me know about it. All I've been able to do is delete those log files as often as possible. But I've noticed some significant drop in performance in PT from time to time, even when dealing with lighter sessions.

Hey. Guys

Where exacly are you finding these log files on a MBP? I can't find any log files that has the Avid name on it.

We have 2 MBPr with OSX 10.8.5 on them and PTHD 11

Can you specify the address to look for them please

Thanks
Chris

You'll find them in the Library folder (the one under your user name, not under Macintosh HD). To get there, alt-click on the 'Go' tab when in the Finder and you'll see 'Library' appear in the drop down menu. Then 'Logs', then 'Avid'.
