Default Upgrade from PT11 ..., & subscription period QUESTIONS

Hi There ,

My questions are regarding ;

What is the cheapest recommended upgrade path from Pro Tools 11 Native to Pro Tools 12.1 Native ?

Ive noticed so far the $199 price is for upgrades from PT 9 etc

...., also

Regarding the updates and the 12 months subscription plan

....., as Im currently using a Slate Raven (that is "not yet" 100% compatible for use with pro tools 12)

I am guessing / hoping ...., that the 12 months subscription period would not begin until PT 12 is actually installed and registered - would I be correct to assume that ?

The reason I am asking the above questions is ;

I would not actually use PT12 until my Slate RAVEN was fully compatible with PT12 ...., but AFAIK Im currently under the impression the cheaper Pro Tools 12 upgrades will get more expensive to buy at a later date ..., (is this correct or not)

Sorry guys , to be clueless about all the above as I had previously shut my eyes and been turned off with the whole PT12 subscription idea so much so that I even intended to switch DAWs, but with my reluctance of now wanting to go through another new learning curve, of yet another Daw has me now looking at PT 12 (add to this my fondness for the Raven + Pro Tools work flow), as I like some of the updates in 12.1 like the input monitoring etc..

...., any advice , or corrections regarding my above question are greatly appreciated

With the Raven and Pro Tools 12 ................,

Why I would want to wait until the Raven is 100% compatible before actually installing / authorizing PT12 ........, is;

Some things are working ...., and some are not

A long awaited update is need by AVID to fix them .

Raven users were very disappointed that the recent protools 12.1 update FAILED to address the reported Raven compatibility issues.

Slate report that ;

The issue is specific to cursoring through the open menus listed below:

- Insert Window.
- Sends.
- Output Busses.
- Groups.
- Insert Menus on an open plugin.
- A-J Rack Location Menus on an open plugin.

The functionality is inconsistent, functioning sometimes, while other times not functioning. Because we allow users to access these in the Batch Command System, it is important for us to have this repaired. This is at the core the issue, and they have reported PT-202512 as the bug and have confirmed it a candidate to repair for their next update.

Unless I've totally missed it, if you are paying the $199, all a "subscription" means is that for a period of 12 months you get any upgrades (i.e. to "13" - though 12.2 or 12.3 wouldn't cost you?) for free.

After 12 months, the upgrade will cost you - probably another $199 (assuming it's to the next version.)

*** Correction: I'm describing perpetual license. (thx JFreak) Subscription = rental (ala Photoshop?)

Subscription means your license is valid for the subscribed period. After that it won't work.

Perperual license keeps working, and you pay for support plan to stay current.

Hi JFreak , thx for chiming in ..,

With the PT12 subscription ....,

Q1 - Does the subscription period actually start
..............,

* The Day that PT12 was purchased ? ......, - OR - * The Day PT12 is Installed and Authorized ?

Q2 - Is the $199.00 upgrade offer from PT9 to PT12 VALID as an upgrade from PT11 to PT12 ..., or is there a different package for this ?

I would think it's one and the same. Take a look at this product to be sure.

Hi Jfreak,

I just found this of an FAQ page ...., (sorry I didnt find it earlier)

Q; Does my upgrade and support plan start from the purchase date or activation date?

A: Your plan is valid for one year from the time you activate your new Pro Tools software. The same applies to Pro Tools users who buy an upgrade and support plan, which also requires activation.

- Therefore my next question is ? .....,

Q - What is required for activation ?

..., is this automatically done upon install , or via a submitting a redemption to code to iLok (guessing) ...., as Id hate to accidentally activate before I was ready to use PT12

(in my case that would'nt be until avid fixed the issues preventing the slate Raven from functioning correctly in PT12)
