Re: Protools 11 Recording Timing
If you want to test audio recording timing, this was the method we used last time this happened:
1) Create a click track and route it to a bus. 2) Record that click to a new audio track. 3) Mute the click track 4) Run the audio track with recorded click out a hardware output. 5) Patch the hardware output directly to a hardware input 6) Record the audio coming back to the hardware input. (Muting the record enabled track to eliminate feedback, depending on your routing scheme) So, the path should be: Audio Track > Output 1 [or any other output] > Input 1 [or any other input] > new audio track Compare the audio on the freshly recorded audio track to the one you sent to the hardware output. They should be aligned. Mike |

The routed click is 2046 samples behind the original. That happens consistently wether the buffer is 32 or 1024. With delay compensation OFF, the waves line up perfectly. Screenshot showing sync with delay compensation engaged: Screenshot showing sync with delay compensation off: |

Re: Protools 11 Recording Timing
Do you have any Hardware Inserts that create a delay?

Re: Protools 11 Recording Timing
Just out of interest I repeated the test in PT10, identical setup and the clicks lined up perfectly so this must be a PT11 issue.
Is anyone else on 11.0.0.528 having this issue? Which to recap is that recorded audio is late if recorded with delay compensation engaged. |

Re: Protools 11 Recording Timing
We need someone else with PT 11 doing the same test to know if it's a bug. Not on 11 yet here...

Re: Protools 11 Recording Timing
Did anyone try this with compensation turned off?

Re: Protools 11 Recording Timing
Yes, check out the pics above, with delay compensation off it's perfectly in sync. The problem only occurs when delay compensation is engaged. Which is a shame 'cos using PT without delay compensation throws up a whole load of other problems.
Really need some other people using PT11 vanilla to chime in with their results. Help please! |

Re: Protools 11 Recording Timing
OK ... i am not on HD hardware (Lynx PCIe card and Aurora 16) ... here is what i found doing your test ...
PT10 - 23 samples of difference between recorded click playing back from out 8 back to In 8 and the NEWLY recorded click track ... all sample rates and all buffer settings with ADC ON or OFF - So, i am not right on as you say your system is ... odd ... PT11 - same with ADC off ... with ADC ON it is 4118 samples does that sound consistant ??? cheers john I am running the Trial of PT11 .. sorry needed to add this
