Pro Tools 11 - upgrade from 8.0 MP

Hello

here's my question. I'm currnetly using pro tools 8 and i want to upgrade it to 11. Is there any option to buy only an upgrade, or do i have to buy completly new software?

The second question is about hardware. If i'm using pro tools 8 with M-Audio ProjectMix I/O is that ProjectMix compatible whit PT 11, or do i also need to buy new hardware?

If you are on PT8 using a Project Mix, then you are on PT M-Powered, not regular Protools, because regular PT8 would not even work with a Project Mix.

Either way, the cost is the same from either version to upgrade. It is $399. You will also need an Ilok 2, which is $50. For many people, it may be advantageous to instead buy an Eleven Rack for $679, which gives you PT11, and an Ilok 2 as well.

Your Project Mix theoretically should work fine with PT11, however, since it was discontinued a few years ago, the drivers have not been updated in a long time, and for that reason it may not work with newer computer operating systems.

I'm using a modified (when Black Lions offered that mod) ProjectMix I/O with P11 and no issues on OS X 10.8.x and OS X 10.9.x. That being said, it is getting to be a little long in the tooth and with no support going forward I am looking to upgrade at some point, most likely when upgrading the iMac to a newer host.
