No sound playing back!

Please can anyone help?

I have just spent a fortune to upgrade my iMac. I then bought ProTools 12, new external hard drive and upgraded all my plugins.

I can manage to get my previous songs to load no problem. All the plug ins are recognised. However, the playback is not playing my music. It is making a strange interference noise when there is a signal.

I can manage to record through a microphone, and the wave pattern on the track displays and looks fine but again, it won't play back except for an interference sound. When I change the output 1-2 as an experiment to just 1, or just 2, it plays back what I have just recorded, but in a stuttered way with the interference sound. This is the same whether I use headphones or speakers, both of which obviously worked fine before.

The new one is 3.4ghz quad core, 1tb hard drive, two thunderbolt ports, SDXC card slot, four USB 3 ports. We have Pro Tools 12 and Hardware interface is MBox2.

Could it be the older Mbox or is the configuration not correct? Any advice would be gratefully received. I am desperate to get back to recording again instead of all this tech stuff!

Do you have your interface selected in the playback engine - and in sound settings in Mac prefs?

what version of PT12 ?? what OS ?? mBox 2 .. is that qualified for PT12 ??

Yes, it is in the playback engine. I select the MBox in the mac preferences and it seems to default back to the original setting of its own accord. Am coming to the conclusion that they MBox 2 is not supported and this is the problem. But if you can think of anything else I can try that would be great.
