Default AMIII & 888/24 ???

Hi,
Is it possible to use an 888/24 in conjunction with my AMIII cad to get high quality 24 bit audio into my PT 5.1.1 LE setup, by linking the 888 and AMIII via the SPDIF in/outs ?
Even if it will work, is there any point ? Does the AMIII still present a lower quality signal processing capability 'weak link' that renders the use of the high quality 888 pointless ?
I know that I can only get 2 channels over SPDIF, but that's OK!

(Brent, if you read this, thanks...I've installed OS 9.2.1 and all is well with the AMIII card and CD player !!!)

You're talking about using an outboard a/d converter. The 888/24 is not designed for this purpose. There are more appropriate a/d converters that probably cost about half what you could sell the 888/24 for. Look into the Lucid AD2496 (~$750) and the Apogee Rosetta (~$1000).

Thanks Sugarite...
Your on the ball OK. The reason that I'm interested in the 888 as opposed to other cheaper A/D converters is that I might want to upgrade to TDM in the future, and I've been offered a secondhand 888 for £1000 IEP(about $880)!!!
Can I take it from your answer that it will actually work fine with the AMIII as I propose, and do you have an opinion on the quality of the AMIII internal 24 bit processing?
The kind of work I'm interested in is mastering work, where I would typically want to take in a stereo track, work on it with a combination of PT plugins and probably Waves Native Power Pack, mastering to either DAT (16 bit) or CD.
