Default Compression question

On many of the location recordings (schools) I do there are parts that are too quiet for comfortable listening. Typically a flute player in a concert band with a solo. These are stereo recordings. The soloist is not buried by the band just much too quiet.

Is there a convenient way using a compressor or limiter, etc. to automatically boost the quiet parts without compressing the entire recording.

LE 6.4

TIA

yes and its called audio suite

although if I were you I'd try audio suite gain on those parts before you compress

when you do this listen to the noise floor as if you have a poor signal to noise ratio

then you may have to retrack

if all is well I would then consider compressing

you couls also user auto mation to do what you want but this way is simpler and more efficient in my eyes

Hey mersisblue,

How do you feel about breaking the recording into seperate regions and normalizing the more quiet part?

This is what I practice since, prior to reading your post, this is the only method I came up with..

Thanks!

Draw in some subtle and slow volume automation if you don't want to compress.

Put a spot mic on the flute player and mix to taste.
