Really Weird Problem
I recently upgraded to an MBOX 2 so I gave my friend my MBOX 1. I also gave him my midi controller which is the first generation Oxygen8 and it is powered by USB like the MBOX. I do not know the specs of his computer other than it is a Toshiba laptop with a 3.02Ghz processor and 512MB RAM.
The problem we are having is that ProTools (7.1.3 i think) opens fine and the MBOX plays music through monitors as it's supposed to. Where the problem comes in is when we plug in the Oxygen8. The Oxygen8 gets power and the lights turn on, but then, no audio will come from ProTools. I can see on the screen when I push buttons on the Oxygen8 so proTools is recognizing it, but no audio comes out.
It's not just that I get no sound when playing the midi controller. When I plug it in I lose ALL sounds! Even regular audio tracks don't have sound. ProTools is running and the counter is moving and the levels are jumping, but there is nothing coming out of the monitors. In order to get my sound back, I have to shut down ProTools, unplug the Oxygen8, unplug the MBOX, plug the MBOX back in then relaunch ProTools and I have audio fine. As soon as I plug in the Oxygen8, I lose all sounds again!
I know the Oxygen8 is not broken because I used it on my computer the same day. What I'm thinking is that the USB power (he only has two USB ports on the back) is not enough to push the MBOX AND the Oxygen8. Does this sound right? Has anyone else experienced this? Is there and hardware that can be purchased to add to the laptop to give the USB ports more power? Just let me know what you know...thanks in advance.
