These days I only buy music that has been recorded with 32 bit floating.......or partially submerged............point RTAS plugs.
I like a fluid tone.....and I know what I like.

There is no difference. TDM and RTAS versions of the same plug-in will cancel when doing a null test.

Phil how are you achieving this? I've been trying 32 bit partially submerged point RTAS plugs for years and they all sink like stones to the bottom of the billabong.
I've tried macs, PCs, Commodores all to no avail! It is making a rather nice
artificial home for my yabbies though.

I've lost count how many times this has happened to me or my fellow engineers. And every time it is a great excuse to open another can of coke ;D
LOL! This has happened to me at least 8-10 times with working with Melodyne Pitch correction. I have a great sense of pitch, but I have had a few times when I am tweaking the plug-in thinking it is sounding so much better until I hit a note that really won't change. Then I realize that the plug-in is in bypass mode Really embarrassing in front of clients. But hey, they were hearing the difference too.

Well obviously I can't reveal certain techniques..........you understand.

Let me say just one thing..........Vic 20.
I mean if you want to talk about floating points.

I fear I've said to much.

you should be *WORKING* Phil!!! ;-)

On that note... you guys should read Stephen Massey's take on it (the guy behind Massey plugins)... here's a link to his blog regarding the whole RTAS vs TDM debate.

http://www.smassey.com/blog.html#28_apr_2009

As for inconsistencies... try buying 2 of the same vintage analog processors and see if you can tell the difference... Back then, EVERY bit of gear was different, even if it had the same faceplate!!

I have an analog console... and i *KNOW* there are some channels that sound totally different to other channels, even though they are labelled the same. It forces you to FIND WHAT WORKS.... It's all part of the fun of making music.

The point is, if we are so hung up on whether the RTAS version sounds different to the TDM version, somewhere along the way we've either 1) lost the pursuit of making good sounding music with WHATEVER tools are available, or 2) bored / don't have enough work to keep us from getting hung up on little things like that.

Hope you can take a moment to rediscover the fun side of making music, or whatever you do

Henry

Bounce some tracks with same settings rtas/tdm, and do null test. Report back. I hear a difference between the processing on my gold plated PCIe cards over my normal stock digi ones. But I haz no proof!

This is easy to test. So go do it, or shush.
