Default random white noise/static

I've had this problem now on both Digi001 and MBox systems PT6. Certain audio tracks will generate a random burst of white noise. It is only on certain tracks, does not appear in the waveform, it does not come at the same point of each file, and does not appear if the audio file is opened in another application. Dual 1Gig/1.5Gig RAM/2x72gig scsi. Anyone else seen this type of behavior? I never experienced this with PTLE under OS9, and haven't seen it in Logic or Live under OSX.

Nostatic,

You ever figure out what the static sound is? I get the same thing with PT 6 running on a dual gig, connected via lightpipe to a d8b.

Thanks

I am not using any plugins, I can now hear the noise burst on playback - randomly. I have a 8 bar loop which i am playing to. About ten minutes looping the noise appeared.

Three short burst, then all was OK

I was thinking that it was related to the ATTO oem scsi card, but if you're seeing it on a Ti book (haven't tried it there yet), then I don't think that's the cause.

I didn't get it today, but instead had a few unexpected quits and 2 hard freezes that required the reset button be hit. I think it was related to iTunes being open and accessing core audio.

I've just loaded PT 6.0 on my G4 Digital Audio 733 MHz and have tried running the demo session. I get the bursts of white noise that pegs the meters and seems to occur in the same tracks, but not always, and at the same time, but again, not always.

Very frustrating, I'm a little worried about recording sessions and am hoping this is just a problem with the demo. Funny, but it didn't happen the first time I played the demo.

it is not a problem with the demo.

I recorded 2 guitar tracks, added a drum loop sample, no plugins. I then looped playback. In 5-10 minutes the noise burst was heard . At one point I stopped playback to edit a tail and the noise came up. ( 1gigTi/Mbox 10.2.4 )

It appears it has nothing to do with recording ,playback, plugins or Atto ?

I remember 2 years back using Final Cut Pro we had the same "white noise blast" at the end pf a video clip, it was directly related to the version of QuickTime.

DesertDude,

Are you playing back from an external Firewire drive or internal ATA? If Firewire, whats the drive formatted with?

Mike,
External FW drive. Format = HFS+. This drive was reformatted Dec.28th 2002 using Apple OSX Disk utility.

Mike,

I'm using a ATTO UL3S card. Do you think that might be the problem?
