Default Avid HD I/O (16x16 Digital I/O) & 96 I/O

I am thinking of purchasing a Avid HD I/O (16x16 Digital I/O) . I currently have a 96 I/O that I use with a Focusrite Octopre 8 digital channels thru octo Lightpipe and a AP1 +3124 4 channels of analog when recording drums at 44.1 . I wish to record at 88.2 and can not get 8 channels of digital thru light pipe with 96 I/O .
Would my 96 I/O and the Avid HD I/O (16x16 Digital I/O) work in conjunction ? Is there any other way to do this with my current set up?
Is the Avid HD I/O (16x16 Digital I/O) overkill? Omni?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

You can do 88 with the HD IO Digital via SMUX, and you can also still use the 96io, integrating it with your setup.

Keep in mind that SMUX needs 2 lightpipe cables for 8 channels at 88.2 or 96K.

I guess I have a newbie question how would I link/intergrate 96 I/O and Avid 16x16 digital ?
I have another question can I get 4 tracks of audio thru Lightpipe @88.2 now with my Octopre and 96 I/O? I can not seem to configure in setup>hardware

At 44.1 with this setup (below)I can get 8 channels thru Lightpipe but @88.2 I get this message thru channel input ADAT 1 (Mono)-DigiLink n/a

Clock Source: Internal
Digital Format: AES/EBU

Should digital format be optical? I am a hair confused. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.Thank You
