I thought it would be a good idea to see what plugins are peoples favourites and also which extra ones the have purchased or are free that they like.

Re: Your favourite Plugins
My two favorites are Altiverb and McDSP Channel G. On huge sessions, which is the usual situation for me, I have to use Channel G Compact or else I run out of DSP, but it sounds great too. I slap Channel G Surround on my stem busses to limit the fronts to -2 FSD and the surrounds to -6 FSD plus to low pass the boom. It isn't thrilling or anything, but it is pretty much invisible, which is the whole point. I like Pitch 'n Time for harmonizing. For generating sub-harmonics on my boom return I use Digidesign's RectiFi followed by McDSP FilterBank F2 to band pass it from 40Hz to 80Hz, which gives me a very tight and stable boom.
For a standard reverb I use Revibe, but I prefer Altiverb because it sounds so much more realistic, plus it doesn't boing or splash the high end when you hit it with huge transient impacts. However, it's a huge DSP hog and the automation workflow sucks. I'm anxiously looking forward to version 7 which is supposed to improve the automation. That's about all I need for mixing feature sound FX.

Massey Tapehead.
If ever there was a 'make it sound better' plugin, it's this. |
