Re: Carbon is not -18dBFS like normal HD? Also, how to use S/PDIF?
I will ask someone at Avid to review the knowledgebase article. I myself do not take a stance.

The article explains how to set the analog OUTPUT levels. The max. OUTPUT level for the MTRX and MTRX Studio is +24 dBu. Yes, the "full" MTRX can be set to a max. analog INPUT level of +30 dBu, but the KB article does not deal with the analog INPUT level. I hope that clarifies it.

The KB article came about as we found some users were confused about the DA setting. Some would set it to 0 dBu thinking it would give them unity gain, others would set it to +4 dBu because that's the value/terminology on the HD IO and others would leave it on default value (+18 dBu). All of these would experience a lower SPL level than what they had with HD IO, so that's why we made the article. We also had some that experienced distortion on their monitoring, particularly when they had peaks in the sound. That is why we also included information about that particular issue. Anyway, I am happy the confusion has been cleared.
