Default ASIO4ALL driver or audio interface driver for playback engine?

Hi all,
I am an absolute beginner and this is my first thread here, so please bear with me
I did make my searches to no avail - most likely my ignorance on the topic didn't help with using the correct keywords.
I am starting to use Pro Tools First.
I am still at the initial setup stage.
While I am setting up the playback engine I am allowed to select among three options:
- Windows audio device
- ASIO4ALL
- UMC ASIO (UMC is the audio interface name).
Which one should I select? Is there a reason for what is to be selected?
TIA
--Carlo

If you are using the UMC404, select that as the playback engine. You would use the Windows one if you were using your computers on board audio device, and ASIO4All is a generic asio driver which works for some interfaces, but can give unreliable performance. You can only use one of these at a time. An asio driver allows a multitrack interface, such as your UMC, to communicate with the computer.
