????
What do you need to do? What do you mean by mp3 plug-in? Let's see, your question is equivalent to "Anyone's got a CD quality software to sale..."!!!?

Try to be more precise in your question and I might be able to help.
David.

You don't need a plug in to convert to mp3. You can just bounce to disc and convert to mp3 on the bounced file. It's in the manual. You can save to real player format as well. The encoder supplied with protools does a pretty good job too. I believe there's more about this on the PTLE CD.

you do need the encoder. the included encoder poops out after 30 days. i thought i remember paying 19.95 not 29 but i could be mistaken. i can assure you, i have tested many mp3 encoders and while the pt one is by far the slowest, it is the only one i can fool my clients with. bladenc, soundjam, real producer ect they can all hear artifacts and distortion. i don't work for digi. i am not happy with them right now. i can assure you the 30 dollors is a good price for this encoder. it is flexible, it WILL do variable bit rates (mp3.com does NOT use this but in the future vai bit rate is the way to go)
buy it.

Digi's encoder is only 19.95 $$ and works great. It really does a nice job, and sounds better than some of the "commercially available " converters - I've tried some others which don't sound as good. It is definitely the best bang for the buck out there - highly recommended.

Someone in one of the folders on the DUC recently turned me on to a Macromedia program called Sound Edit 16, version 2.0.7, which includes a free Plug-in (called an Xtra) that can convert SDII files to 'Shockwave Audio'. SWA is apparently the original MP3 codec designed by the Fraunhofer Institute. They developed the algorithm and sold it to Macromedia for use with SWA before they realized how big MP3 would be. Subsequently they developed a similar algorithm - but different enough from the original to avoid copyright infringement with Macromedia. Some people think that the original codec is more hi-fi than the second MP3 algorithm and export their files to SWA, change the file extension, and voila - high quality MP3s. The downside, SE 16 program costs about $300. (You can do lots of other things with it obviously, as its intended for audio web content development - so if you already have it - try it, it works great. )

I thought the Digi converter used the Fraunhofer algorithm and was licensed from them. Yes/no? Anyone know?

I use a freeware called MP3 encoder 0.12 by Johan Lindvall :download it here.

awesome sounding.

no look, no interface, no flashy website (but who cares?)

It's free!
