Clip gain presets
Ideally I'd like to keep my clip gain nudge value at .5db but have a preset or some way of hitting a button and have my clip gain either boost or cut by 5.0 db. Is there any way to do this? You can't audio suite because that resets the clip gain to 0.0. I wish Avid would have Clip Gain presets.

Re: Clip gain presets
You can AudioSuite it and keep your existing clip gain if you set the AudioSuite plugin to Clip By Clip and Individual Files. In that case the Handle Length box at the bottom right comes into play. You can set the amount of handle that remains in the new file to an amount of seconds, or have it render the Whole File. But keep in mind that using AudioSuite will create all new audio files and start to eat up hard drive space.

Re: Clip gain presets
I appreciate the answer but that’s not what I’m looking to do. Thanks

Re: Clip gain presets
Understood. I was just clarifying that there is a way to AudioSuite without the Clip Gain getting reset to zero.

Exactly what I do, but I still find myself changing between 0.5db and 5dB settings. Need to look into KM and see if there’s a way to speed up the triggers which would mean I could leave it set like you do. I have a 10dB clip gain macro for de-breathing which would require MANY triggers if set to 0.5dB. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Clip gain presets
I'm interested in a faster way, too.
I also use KM with many triggers to get breaths down. Cheers Maik

Re: Clip gain presets
No, I'm with you. For de-breathing VO I do often wind up adjusting the increment. My usual macro will separate the clip and gain down 4 times and I change the gain value depending on the project specs. It's true that too many keystroke actions in a row can cause slowdown. I took the time once to make a macro that would call the Preferences dialog and adjust the clip gain increments automatically (mostly based on Find Image actions) but in the end I didn't think it offered much convenience over doing it myself.

Re: Clip gain presets
It’s not the answer you’re looking for, but I always use the mousewheel for clip gain (like you I normally have it set for 0.5db). The wheel is great for making big changes very quickly, I find, so reducing by 20db only takes a second or two even at the 0.5db setting.
The only drawback is if you undo - that’s really tedious!

Re: Clip gain presets
That's not a bad way about it and I used to do it that way myself but I found that my hand would cramp up during longer edit sessions from the repetitive strain of scrolling.
