Default Computer Questions

First off has anyone been running Digi 001 on the 500 MHZ G4's cause thats the route I wanna go but I wanna make sure nothing ****ed up will happen.
Second When you buy your G4 from Apples leasing program you can get an Ultra SCSI PCI slot does this one handle the magnitude of the external Hard Drive thast you need to run DIGI 001 to the full extent of its abilities.
Third. Soi a G$ 500 comes with 27 GB of hard disk space. So IF I have a external SCSI hard drive where the audio that im recording is going to. Can I then put another project on the 27 GB internal HD without killing my DSP usage or is DS{P purely in the RAM is what Im asking. Or does free Hard Disk space figure into the DSP factor.

Default Re: Computer Questions

The 001 seems to be perfectly happy recording to a second internal ultra ATA drive in the G4. My setup has been glitch free, using the 10gb stock drive as the system/software and an IBM 34GXP 34gig 7200RPM ATA/66 drive partitioned into several volumes to record on. Digi recommends a second drive for recording. Many people seem to be recording on the same disk as they put the system and software on without ill, but why tempt fate. ATA disks are *so* cheap why bother?

I've run into no problems at all with this setup. It is also much cheaper than a SCSI card/drive setup.

If you look at Digi's supported hardware list, they don't seem to recommend the SCSI card that Apple ships with the G4 if you order that option. So far, they only seem to support the Atto card if you want SCSI recording drives.

The hard drive doesn't make any difference with the DSP capacity. That's a factor of processing speed and RAM.
