External Drive not in PT workspace
First off, thank you to this community. Ive quietly solved a handful of issues by reading through the various problems and advice on this forum. After exhausting my knowledge and search skills I've come to a problem I can't figure out. Any advice would be sincerely appreciated.
I was running PT 8.0.4 on Windows 7 64-bit with a 3rd gen Mbox(standard model). I bought a Glyph GT 050q 1TB external HD to use as a dedicated audio drive for recording. I connected the drive through firewire 400 and formatted it correctly (NTFS basic). I then created a test session in PT and tried to save it to my new HD, and ran into the 'session must be on an audio record volume. if permitted set the volume(s) in question to R in the workspace ' error. When I opened up the PT workspace my external HD was not listed... I designated the drive with letter A and labeled it Audio, but the only drive in the PT workspace was C: So I copied an old session on the new drive and tried to open it and got the same error, and the drive was still missing from the workspace. Next I reformatted the drive just to be sure and clicked through the drive properties to make sure everything was set properly. I removed the quick format option this time and it took forever. Still same issue. Next I reformatted the drive again and changed the partition style to MBR instead of GTP. This didn't work either. After I tried to trash the PT prefs and databases. Still no drive in my workspace and I get the same error when trying to use it. I deleted and reinstalled my PT drivers. I imported audio tracks from the new HD into pro tools and they converted fine. The drive is working fine with my computer. Since I have service pack 1 with windows 7 64-bit I upgraded to PT 8.0.5. Still the same issue. I've connected the drive with firewire, usb, and eSATA and it is still not recognized by the PT workspace. My D: drive shows up when I have a cd in the drive, and my C: drive shows up every time. I connected an old WD my book 500gb through USB and firewire with the same cables and PT recognized it immediately in the workspace. Even though the drive is formatted FAT and not compatible with PT. The workspace even detects any jump drive I connect. I then tried just about every one of these steps again each time trashing prefs and databases and restarting or shutting down my computer. After searching these forums and the internet as best as I could I can't even find another instance of someone having the same problem. I feel like I've tried everything, but no matter what I try the PT workspace will not show or detect my Glyph HD. Since I can't get it to show up in the PT workspace I can't change it to a record volume. Since I am out of ideas, I am asking for help. Below is a Sandra report. Perhaps I have compatibility issues that are beyond my knowledge of computers. Can anyone think of why this drive won't show up in the PT workspace when every other drive I've tried will? Is there a way to designate the drive as a record volume outside of the PT workspace? I would gladly welcome and appreciate any advice or further resources you could point me to. Re: External Drive not in PT workspace
have you tried labelling the drive E: (or similar) instead of A: ?
Mke.

Re: External Drive not in PT workspace
Thanks Mike, that did it! I considered changing that at one point but figured I was just being paranoid. I'm not sure if I'm more happy that it's working now, or more upset that it was that simple of a fix. Very humbling indeed. Thanks again.

Re: External Drive not in PT workspace
A: is usually system-reserved for a floppy, which is probably why you were having issues. I'm sure many of the "younger folk" don't know/remember floppies.
Cheers,

Re: External Drive not in PT workspace
Interesting that you've got 8.04 working with Win7, I thought only 8.05 was qualified to run on Win7.

Re: External Drive not in PT workspace
interesting windows still reserves for floppy. perhaps in case someone wants to load up word munchers.
if i remember correctly i waited to buy my mbox until PT v8.04 was listed as compatible with windows 7. i made sure to change my system settings to everything that was recommended for optimization. when recently troubleshooting the website only listed v8.05 as officially compatible with the service pack 1 update. firefox originally had trouble downloading the updater, and I had to run the setup manually by clicking the correct setup file. i was under the impression the setup wizard would launch automatically. I had to run the setup twice since the first time my mbox was plugged in which messed up the setup process. But now everything is up and running smoothly! |
