Default digital western external HD - a good/bad idea...?

Hi there...
i recently got a DW 250GB Premium ed. external hd in order to use with my pro tools LE 6.9.2 and mbox. when pro tools didn't regard it as an audio-recording volume, i tried re-formatting it to be mac-compatable, (duh...) choosing the "journaled" option as well. it didn't work. was it a bad idea to get this HD for that purpose, or is there something i can still do???

thanx
kate

p.s - and what does the "journaled" do?

It is possible that the case for the drive isn't compatible, but these days I'd stick with Seagate mechanisms (5 yr warranty) and buy cases from Macsales.com (Other World Computing). Putting them together is very easy. Can you return the DW?

I use a WD 250 gig FW on the road because I had it already and it works. But it's a 7200 rpm model -- could that be the problem? You can check the specs of yours at http://support.wdc.com/productspec.asp

Go to the "Window" buttton, click on "Workspace" browser and look for the external hard-drive listed on the left. To the right are two box's, click on them and change the type to "Record", that should fix the problem.
