Noise elimination/reduction....help!
Noise elimination/reduction....help!
Hi All, I made a recording (which I can't re-record because it was a live performance) with my input levels too high....and thus, I get a lot of noise background. Is there anybody that can give me a tip on how to reduce it, or eliminate it completely? |

Re: Noise elimination/reduction....help!
Do you mean it was clipping or distorted?

Izotope RX is really good for this kind of thing... you can try it before you buy to see if it does the trick: http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/rx/download.asp
If you are doing a lot of live recordings in unpredictable situations it might be worth owning: http://imsproav.com/main/IZOTOPRX2.html

Re: Noise elimination/reduction....help!
It is just like white noise....there is no soundwave, just the white noise of having the mic inputs too high.
Any thoughts on how to fix that? Quote:

Re: Noise elimination/reduction....help!
You can try to reduce it using a combination of gating (AIR Filter Gate maybe?) and some EQ, to try to home in on the problem frequencies, but this could affect the program material undesirably, you'd be in the best position to experiment with this. Something like RX uses a bunch of processes and makes it a bit easier to retain the integrity of the program material.
The best way to start is to loop a section of 'just the noise' and try EQ-ing until you are satisfied with the reduction and then play back the whole file and see how much the plug-in settings to reduce the noise are affecting the whole file- then work from there to adjust things till you get an acceptable balance. (Note: Gating may only really serve to reduce the noise in the silent passages- which may be slightly less distracting to the listener... but it probably won't get rid of the noise in the overall program...)
