Maybe I'll upgrade my 002r to a 003 if possible dunno...

The only new thing seems to be the Word Clock

There's no AES EBU, There's only 4 preamps, There's only 1 Adat (and i guess there's no smux)
And most of all the new style is awful.

I do really preferf what the "old" 002 looks like.

Only the price seems to be good. Here in Italy should be sold for 1190 Euros = 1570 Dollars

It looks exactly what I thought it would look like -- a glorified M-Audio Project Mix. How can you guys tell about the preamps though? I didn't see any back pics. Just curious.

Never mind. I just saw the main thread with the front and back pics. Phew... for a minute I thought I was going to be lusting after this thing. I think Digi dropped the ball big time on this.

What's going to be really interesting is what M-Audio does for their Project Mix line. With that Lightbridge, you can really blow out an M-Powered system (w/ word clock) far beyond what you can do with LE hardware. Wow. Big let down.

But again, I'm very happy with my current set-up.

Yeah I'm disappointed. Hearing that it would have an additional AES in/out made me consider upgrading. Word clock alone is not enough to justify it.

Yeah, yeah... It's a new 00x unit, just like the 002 was and it seems many upgraded to that. Didn't like the looks at first but it's growing on me... I'll probably get it. If it's in the same price range as the 002 fam I'll get the R version and throw in a C8 with it, otherwise I'd really prefer the standard.

Hopefully it'll work for most of use right from the start without any funky power harness stuff. I'm still excited, Digi, give us the tour!

I'm also bummed.. Even a little addition such as 2 sets of adats... I mean really.. So all they've added is.... ? Word Clock??? I'm bummed... to say the least... This is just a new enclosure for the 002... ps.. those knobs look like they'll get knowcked off the first chance they get...

Hello. I agree that it's not much of an update, but then again the Mbox 2 was a very small update compared to the original Mbox. However they later did a massive update to the Mbox family with the Mbox 2 Pro. OK let's look at some release time frames from Digidesign. The Mbox was released January 2002 and was updated by the Mbox 2 in September 2005. As mentioned before, it was a very underwhelming update, sort of leaving everybody wondering why they even bothered. A year later in September 2006 a quantum leap forward for the Mbox family was released with the Mbox 2 Pro followed closely by a major step back (in features) with the Mbox 2 Mini a few weeks later.

The 002 was released in July 2002 and was followed by the 002 Rack almost a year later in late May 2003. So now we have the 003 being released in March 2007, which as many people have said, it should probably be called the 002 Pro instead of the 003. Underwhelming to many people to say the least. However if recent history of releases is any indication, the 003 Pro should be out within the next year or so. And if the Mbox 2 family is any indication then the 003 Pro should have some major feature updates.

So I think the countdown to the 003 Pro starts tomorrow. That is if they are ever going to release one at all. Now word clock and SMUX is nothing to sneeze at, but overall it's basically a 002.
