Default "cannot be designated as an audio record volume..."

Hello All,

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro laptop. I use an old G4 OS 10.5 with PT 8.0 and an external drive....have had ZERO problems...

I installed PT 6.9 with no problem on my laptop..... installing PT 8.0 upgrade as we speak.....

Before starting the installation process (PT 8.0), I tried doing a test session and saving to my external drive (which works PERFECTLY with my G4). When I tried to save the session, I got a message that said, "not an audio record volume" and remember this from before. So I went to my windows tab, workspace and tried to change my "T" to an "R" and got an error message that said, "cannot be designated as an audio record volume because it is not a valid audio volume"....

Been reading thru the different threads here.... Don't feel the need to "repair" my ext drive as it works fine with my G4...

Any suggestions... have a mobile recording gig on Monday and NEED this to be working.....HELP!!!

Thanks

What OS is on the new MBP? How is the old external drive formatted? If its FAT32, that could be the issue(FAT32 support is going away fast). You might check the compatibility grid thru the link above on this page to make sure your version of Pro Tools will work with your new OSX version. Then, maybe try repairing disk permissions

albee1952,

Thanks for your quick response!

MBP, OS 10.6.8, which should work with PT 8.0, if it works with OS 10.5, right?

Regarding FAT32 volumes.... how do I find this out...?

But again, this external drive IS a record volume for PT 8.0 with my G4 Tower OS 10.5. Shouldn't it be the same with the MBP OS 10.6.8?

Sadly, I am not up on the various versions. Follow this: Pro Tools Compatibility Grids and look for the grid that shows what works. I think there's quite a difference between 10.5(Leopard) and 10.6(Snow Leopard). As for checking the formatting on the drive, let's hope a Mac user can drop the answer on us(i know how to do it in Windows, but am lost on the finer details of Mac)

"Regarding FAT32 volumes.... how do I find this out...?"

Highlight the audio drive, right click or ctrl-click the drive, choose Get Info.
