Default help w/ Tape flange and latancy calculations w/ 003 LE

Please help me with my calculations.

I'm trying to tape flange with my pro tools le system and a reel to reel.

The set up:
-1 track for original,
-2 track for copy of original slid back to compensate for latency (3378 samples pinged + 32 samples for buffer) and then sent to tape machine,
-3 track return from the tape machine and monitored along with track 1 the original.

Pro Tools LE - Apogee Rosetta 800 - REEL TO REEL- back to Apogee- into PT, monitored out through Apogee.

The problem:
It sounds great when I'm monitoring the LIVE tape return along with the original track, super flange!

BUT when I playback the pass (the original file along with the recorded tape return file) the flange is no longer in the right places.

What am I not compensating for here? Why do I hear it fine when recording and then different when just playing back?

There's a bit of latency involved when you send a signal out of Pro Tools and record the return on another track. Try moving the recorded tape return track around til it sounds right.
