Default Lo-fi sound effect

Does anyone have any suggestions how to get a really good lo-fi sound? I am looking for something kind of like the intro to the Red hot Chili Pepper record "Blood Sugar Sex Magick".... just completely lifeless.... I have been using different variations of eq settings, but I keep missing the sound I hear.

Digi Lo-Fi will definitely get you there, however you may also want to look at iZotope Trash which will give you everything from lofi sounds to amp emulation to multiband distortion. It's worth looking into if you're looking for something that goes way beyond normal distortion plugins.

You can check it out at this link.

I hope this helps.

Izotope Vinyl can get pretty Lo-Fi, and it's free...

Out it to an old crappy Zoom processor or something of that nature. I personally like using a Digitech GSP-7 gutiar processor from the late 80's. It sounds like bunghole - especially if you let it red out. Check out my song "Breakdown" on MySpace (see link below). The intro vocal was tracked using the GSP-7.
