We were talking here about a mobile 'mini' drive that has also a quad interface. But unlike your Mercury elite Al Pro drive Stickman, it is not powered externally.

Your Al Pro is a desktop drive, right?

The drive that we talked about is a mobile Aluminum enclosed. Not Plastic.

Hi guys,

I am having a very similar problem with 2 'G Drive' mini firewire drives running with new Mac Minis (4GB RAM) these drives also have the Oxford 934 chipset. The chain I am running is Mac Mini-800--800-G Drive-800--400-DIGI 002. I've tried pretty much all the things on the troubleshooting page but to no avail, anyone got any more ideas on how to solve this or whether the 934 chipset is known for faults??

Cheers in advance
Dicky

Just to follow up, I returned my OWC drive and purchased an Oyen Digital 500gb 7200rpm MiniPro FW400/800+USB. It has been rock solid and exhibits none of the problems of the OWC drive, even though it (supposedly) contains a similar drive and identical chipset. I also don't have much use for the eSATA connector on the OWC drive anyways, and do have an occasional session where a FW400 port comes in handy.

I have had generally good experiences with OWC drives in the past- they are well built and I like the fact that the company is located close to me, but the Oyen Digital drive definitely works better in my application.

I will remember it .... but so-far... I had none of the issues you mentioned with my OWC drive.
