Re: audiophile 2496
PT Free is Apple inputs only. No third party or Digi audio hardware support.
Bummer, huh? |

Re: audiophile 2496
ProTools needs asio support because PT rules but needing only thier mediocre hardware is a drag. wake up digi! open your system to asio support and realize that software is a business too. Id buy PT for 700 bucks if there was support for asio hardware.

Re: audiophile 2496
I'm not sure Digidesign support could handle the extra influx of customer support requests brought about by the multitude of ASIO hardware running on Digi software. I've found that my current wait time is long enough that the Premium $upport $ervice is worth the extra money. I would, however, like to see a few more tracks in ProTools Free, since I used to run PowerMix.

Re: audiophile 2496
It isn't true that PTF can use only mac inputs, it also works with the tascam us-428,
but since it is through sound manager it's only 16-bit. I sure do wonder when and if sound manager can do 24 bit, if protools free will also support this. I would hope so, since it asks at every new session what the bit depth would be (default=24)! I am putting off the purchase of any external device until this all plays out and just using the analog input on my imac for now. If it takes too long I'll have to go with a non-protools solution, of which there are many at the moment. I'm not buying a new computer in addition to PTLE and 001. |

With a three-slot PCI PowerMac, a USB/Firewire card & MOTU's 828 looks like a better solution. I'm not buying a new computer in addition to PTLE and 001. > Ditto that! |
