Default Re-Amping with 192 I/O

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if you guys knew if I was doing anything wrong here? Because for some reason I can't seem to get it right. Here is my chain:

-Guitar DI track being sent to analog out 5-6
-quarter inch female to xlr male monster adapter
-to my xlr cable
-into the little labs red eye
-cable plugged into re-amp out from little labs red eye to amp input

The weird thing is, i'm getting levels when I crank the re-amp level on the red eye, but very low.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Eric

Assuming you've switched from DI to Re-amp mode via the pushbutton.

This one makes me go huh?

The 192 has balanced outs so why are you coming off of it with a 1/4" instead of going directly to XLR?

Yes, I switched the DI to Re-amp mode.

I have a d-sub snake for my analog outputs which are all quarter inch. So, I bought an adapter to be able to connect the xlr cable.

OK, I think this adapting is the most likely place where you are having a problem. Ideally, you should have 1/4" TRS coming from the 192 with a TRS to XLR adapter. If any of these links happens to be 1/4" TS, that is likely the problem. I don't find a female 1/4" TRS to XLR on Monster's website so I wonder if you're using a 1/4" TS barrel adapter to connect the two 1/4" plugs.

Other than that, there's no need to send audio out both 5 & 6. You can use just one of these channels instead.

going from a 192 analog out to a unbalanced input can and will cause damage to the DA
in order to use this 192 output to unbalanced tou must drop the (-) lead
this documented in the 192 user guide
you must not ever ground out the (-) or (+) output
they are not true balanced it's a dual independant signal with the (-) output being phase inverted to get a balanced output
so grounding out either signal will not divert the other signal side to the ungrounded side as a transformer or electronically balanced would do

I've seen it start to oscillate with this and I've seen DA's die also

make sure you have the correct cable configuration
find the 192 manual

If I plug the cable in half way without the adapter and xlr cable, it works just fine. Maybe it's a stereo cable? and I'm plugging it into a mono device? Just a thought.

exactly just lift pin 3 on that xlr and you be fine
like I said the 192 guide clearly shows the pinout for unbalanced output only using pin2 (+) and ground... leaving pin 3 (-) floating

Thank you for your insight! I have downloaded the 192 I/O manual and have printed it out and will keep it around for reference in the future!

I'm a little confused, let's say that I connect my re amp cable to output 5, which pin would I pull out 5a or 5b?

Your making it more complicated than it needs to be.. Just get a TRS to XLR adapter. I think Planet Waves makes one...
