Re: why not do one more Get Current, Get Ahead
What I'd really like, is allow my D-Command to work with Native, and allow my 192 and Omni work with PT Native or Vanilla, whoever its called these days.
I don't make my living from Music, but I do own a lot of HD gear, Avid has to accept and have a plan for folks like me. Seems like there are more of us than Avid ewver considered. Make the HD Native card part of the Vanilla package, and leave HDX as the only HD hardware.

HD users should after the additional investment get at least and identical offer!

Re: why not do one more Get Current, Get Ahead
HD here, frozen at 12.4. Which doesn't really bother me since 12.4 actually WORKS, and I've read way too many horror stories about anything later. Did I feel compelled to pay $399 for support I don't need (and have NEVER used) and point updates that create more problems than they fix? Nope. Or paying almost a GRAND in "ransom" to get "current" again? Huh uh. The best thing we can do here is vote with our wallets, and I've voted a very definitive "no thank you." I'll take dependability over "latest greatest" any day. Because latest greatest seldom is.

Re: why not do one more Get Current, Get Ahead
Unfair from my point of view as well.
HD user frozen at 12.5.1 version which luckily crashes less for me than previous versions although new bugs were introduced and not fixed in 12.5. To name the most annoying one - "aux view selector turns to frames upon selecting all tracks and audio tracks view selector to waveforms", which apparently was fixed in 12.6. The whole deal looks unfair comparing what we used to get for paying for permanent license before: All updates of the major version we purchased were free plus option to upgrade to next major version update for 500$ or so if anyone remembers.

Re: why not do one more Get Current, Get Ahead
I am bowing out as well. I never used any of the features past 12.4.
I like the commit and bounce shortcuts. I might renew in 2018 once the bugs are worked out! |

Re: why not do one more Get Current, Get Ahead
I agree. The ones most screwed in this are the hobbyists who are beholden to HD software because they have HD Native/ HDX hardware and otherwise have no use for the non-hardware related HD software features - and don't have the money to perpetually pay $399/yr - especially given that they pay $300 more than a vanilla user to basically get the same functionality except for hardware activation.
It is patently unfair I think for HD users to even pay significantly more at all. Ultimately we are paying for the development of Pro Tools. The vast majority of development goes toward unified features that go into HD and vanilla versions. Very little effort is actually directed toward HD only. The breakdown is probably something like 20 unified features to 1 HD feature developed. Yet HD users have to pay a 400% tax for that privilege? What bullschtein The reason Avid doesn't want to do specials, I suspect, is because they don't want some big broadcast or post facility customer who own a ton of licenses getting in on some deal when they know they would have upgraded anyway and lose out on all that extra cash. |

Re: why not do one more Get Current, Get Ahead
My HD license expires in a week or 2....Having the latest/greatest DAW does not excite me...Saving that money and putting it towards front end analog gear feels like the better investment these days....Which reminds me, I need to log in and get all my downloads saved....moon
