Loud static noise when pt is on record enabled

Hi you guys,

i've been searching this forum for hours and i see that some people have this problem but im not sure if anyone was able to find a cure for it.

This static sound is soooo bad. Sometimes it will be normal if i restart my computer, start a new session then record...but lately it has just been continuously bad. The static sound makes my levels peak to the max and my monitors want to bleed with pain haha.

this is what i am running.

Pro tools 8
Mac os 10.5.7
M box 2
Audio technica at4040 mic

im just super lost and can not seem to figure it out at all

please help...
