Default Splitting Gtr signal with Mackie 1604 mixer

Greetings, Trying to find a path by which to split my Fender Strat signal using a Mackie 1604 Mixer to provide a DI output to go into my PT LE and also have an output to go into the Gtr amp for micing. Can this be done with the 1604 mixer?

You could plug the guitar into, say channel 1 on the mackie. Output channel 1 to sub mix 1 which would go to your digidesign interface. Then you would connect aux send 1 to your guitar amp input. Use the send knob on channel 1, to send the amount of signal to the guitar amp. Then put a mic in front of the amp and connect it to the 1604 channel 2. Output that channel to submix 2 and record 2 tracks into pro tools and the same time.

Or, connect the guitar to the amp, normal playing style. Put a mic in front of the amp connected to channel 1. If the amp has a line output, that line could go to channel 2 of the mixer. Both channel 1 and 2 could be routed to the sub mix out into your digi interface.

My mackie 1202 has insert jacks on the channels. Not everybody knows that these can be used as direct outputs, just insert the jack half-way in.
